Not to be confused with the fictional town in The Simpsons, Springfield, Illinois is a wonderful destination for any traveller looking for an authentic "classic America" experience. Two major reasons to visit are true U.S. icons - the world famous Route 66, otherwise known as the 'Mother Road' and Springfield's most famous son Abraham Lincoln, who was born and worked there prior to becoming President and whose amazing legacy can be experienced via many of the Lincoln visitor attractions.

The city is the state capital of Illinois and is easy to reach from Chicago (three hours) by road or rail and making it an ideal first or last stopover point for anyone taking a fly-drive along historic Route 66 and wanting to experience the famous attractions such as the Cozy Dog diner or Shea's Garage.
